Red Bull BC One

Background: The second-biggest cultural project of Red Bull Media House, next to Red Bull Music AcademyRed Bull BC One is the world’s premier one-on-one breaking (breakdance) competition, comprising nearly 100 annual competitions around the world, from Kazakhstan to South Korea. Some 10 years later, our tiny team grew to not only include women in the discipline but was approved to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, leaving a lasting legacy for this originally small and relatively obscure cultural project. 

Strategy: As Channel Manager, edit, produce and manage all digital aspects of Red Bull BC One, including the website and social media, in addition to editing all written communication associated with the project. Serve as editor of the BC One Blog, managing a team of 10 global bloggers, covering the culture and lifestyle associated with breaking.

Highlights:

  • Grew video and social channel viewers by more than 1,800% between April and December 2012
  • Served as tech lead for all livestreamed events, supporting the project’s 41% lift in viewer growth from 200K to 950K in one year (far exceeding organizational goals)
  • Increased engagement across Facebook, Instagram, and website traffic by 1,900%, 1,750%, and 1,570% respectively
  • Production and translation (French-English) support for doc series Crew Code
